Martinez's prom dress was damaged during the April 9 tornado that hit Fairdale and the Hiawatha community was able to fix the dress, and raise money and received donations to get her hair, make-up, and nails done before prom. The day of prom marked the one month anniversary of the deadly Faridale tornado.
