Roger Powell and his dog, Tipper, survived Thursday's devastating tornado in Fairdale and are currently housed at his sister- and brother-in-law's home on Irene Road in Kirkland. Powell, his wife Mary Powell, his daughter and two granddaughters were barely in the basement when the tornado flattened and pulled apart their home above them. Mary is currently being hospitalized at OSF St. Anthony Hospital for stress-related symptoms. Powell is hoping to find family photos among the debris when he is allowed to return to what's left of his home.
