London Ellison, 1, gets pushed on the swing by her father, Raymond Ellison, at the Welsh Park playground adjacent to University Village. Ellison recently moved to University Village from Maywood to be with his girlfriend and his two daughters. "I wouldn't let my kids play outside like this in Maywood," Ellison said. "There's too much stuff going on."

Eve Besser, 35, plays with her 5-year-old son, Ziggy, in the living room of their two-bedroom apartment at University Village. Besser and her three children have bounced from place to place looking for a place to call their home, when she got the call saying she was approved for an apartment at University Village one year ago. "It was like, this is mine," Besser said.
