A letter from Emi Day, originally from DeKalb, is seen inside the binder put together by Kevin Ballantine's mother, Diane DeMers, at the Ballatine's home in DeKalb on Saturday. Day's letter is about the time she spent with Ballantine after the two learned of the Northern Illinois University campus shooting on Feb. 14, 2008, while they both were attending Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Day and Ballantine were classmates at both DeKalb High School and Cornell University.
