  • Bob Ronning, of Somonauk, looks over his 6-horsepower Sandwich engine, made in 1913 by Sandwich Manufacturing. Ronning found the engine in an old orchard and had to take it out in pieces, recreate the wooden parts, then piece it back together. It was once used to cut firewood.

The Genoa police department still has a fully equipped Dodge Charger for a K-9 officer from when they had one previously. The majority of the back of the car is a kennel for the dog, which has a spring-loaded door that can be opened remotely (center), a fan and climate controls for the dog's comfort (top left) and sits lower to the ground so the dog doesn't have to jump as far to get in and out. Sergeant Robert Smith currently drives the car and will be the handler for the department's next dog.

Belvidere North wrestler Heriberto "Eddie" Avila and his family are greeted in the auditorium of Genoa-Kingston high school with a standing ovation by the students on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011. Avila ended up having his leg amputated after an unfortunate accident while wrestling against Genoa-Kingston.<br />
The Genoa-Kingston community raised more than $5,700 to give to the Avila family to help them through the tragedy.

Despite the accident that led him to the loss of part of his left leg, he maintains a positive attitude and still plans to accomplish many things. One of those goals is to walk across the stage during graduation.<br />

Avila maintains a positive attitude and high hopes for his future despite losing part of his left leg after a wrestling accident in January.<br />
