More than 35 dozen apple cider doughnuts were made on Aug. 31, the first day Honey Hill Orchard, 11783 Waterman Road in Waterman, opened for the season. Kathy Bock, the orchard's owner, said doughnuts are their most popular bakery item and that they sell more than 800 dozen on a busy day.

Witzel used to work at Jonamac Orchard when she was a student at Northern Illinois University, and she often returns to the orchard to purchase her favorite doughnuts.
