Safe Passage Executive Director Mary Ellen Schaid shows a studio apartment on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 which was recently opened in July for use by men who have been victim to domestic abuse. The women's shelter is overcrowded but there has been no place for men to escape an abusive relationship until now. The men's shelter has already been used by a man since opening in July, however with only one studio apartment available, it may need to shelter multiple men if the need arises.
