DeKalb County Judge Phillip Montgomery listens to the attorney for Carl Russell, of Sandwich, as they spell out their case hoping to have the verdict thrown out Friday during his sentencing hearing for the attempted murder of Eric Peterson. Russell was convicted in June for shooting Peterson in the face after a confrontation in the early morning hours of July 2, 2017. Russell was sentenced to 45 years.
